Kali Linux BASH Shortcuts

The BASH has many important shortcuts that can be very useful in everyday use with the BASH. I have listed the most important BASH shortcuts here. The function of BASH Shortcuts is provided by the GNU Readline library.

Shortcut Beschreibung
Ctrl + a Go to the beginning of the command line
Ctrl + e Go to the end of the command line
Ctrl + k Delete from the cursor to the end of the command line
Ctrl + u Delete from the cursor to the beginning of the command line
Ctrl + w Delete from the cursor to the beginning of the word (delete the current word)
Ctrl + y Paste a deleted word that was deleted with one of the shortcuts to delete
Ctrl + xx Move between the beginning of the command line and the current position of the cursor (back and forth)
Ctrl + f One character forward
Ctrl + b One character back
Ctrl + d Deletes the character under the cursor
Ctrl + h Clears the character in front of the cursor
Ctrl + r Search the history backwards
Ctrl + g Leave the history search mode
Ctrl + p Last command from history (go backwards through history)
Ctrl + n Next command from History (Go Forward through History)
Ctrl + l Delete the command line window
Ctrl + s Stops the output on the command line (for long commands with a lot of output)
Ctrl + q Restore output to the command line (which was previously stopped with “Ctl + s”)
Ctrl + c Cancel currently running command
Ctrl + z Stop current command
